Meet Tania Brown
Tania Brown is Wollongong born and bred, growing up in Unanderra and now living in Wollongong. She has raised her family here and works at the local University.
She is currently serving as a Labor Councillor for Ward 2 on Wollongong City Council, and is the Deputy Lord Mayor.
Tania was first elected to Wollongong City Council 2017, re-elected in 2021 and has served as Deputy Lord Mayor since 2019.
Through her role on council she has fought for our community, this includes establishment of a taskforce to coordinate economic recovery post-COVID, held a skills roundtable, called for the Building Commissioner to open an office in Wollongong, tackled construction noise in the CBD and called for an audit of DA’s linked to delivery of affordable housing.
Tania works at the University of Wollongong and ran an infrastructure research centre for 13 years. Prior to joining the University in 2009, was a Senior Ministerial Policy Advisor, having spent 13 years working for State and Federal Governments.
Tania has previously served as Chair of Destination Wollongong and is now a life member. She is an active member of the Illawarra community and has previously served on the Boards of Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, Illawarra Sports Stadium Ltd, the Illawarra Hawks and the Illawarra District Rugby League Club Limited.
She has been a member of the Labor Party since she was 18 years old and is a self-confessed ‘Broadway Tragic’ and passionate Illawarra Hawks supporter.
