Labor Launches Wollongong Council Election Campaign
Labor’s Wollongong Council election strategy will be based on the four policy pillars of housing, jobs, supporting the suburbs and valuing the environment, Lord Mayoral candidate Cr Tania Brown said at today’s campaign launch.
“The policies we outline today will help Wollongong be a great place to live, work, and raise a family,” Deputy Lord Mayor Cr Brown said.
The Labor team for the September 14 Election includes five current Councillors and seven new faces. “Our team combines experience and new ideas with backgrounds in government, public and private sectors, small business, community and arts, we will make sure we get the basics right,” Cr Brown said.
“We will deliver a customer-focussed council that is financially responsible when facing climate change and cost-of-living pressures. Our experienced and united team has listened and will work with the community to address these challenges.”
“As a life-long local I understand the challenges facing our city and if lucky enough to be elected as Lord Mayor I will bring new energy to the role and be a strong voice for Wollongong.
I have the experience to do the job, as a Councillor for seven years and as Deputy Lord Mayor for five of those years.”
“My record includes responsible Council budget management, establishing a post-Covid economic recovery taskforce, a skills roundtable and various measures to promote affordable housing,” Cr Brown said.
Cr Brown said the Labor team will make further policy announcements during the campaign.
“I’m excited to announce that Councillors David Brown, Ann Martin, Linda Campbell and Richard Martin have joined me to re-contest the September 14 election.
“We welcome to our Labor team Dan Hayes, Karen Fairbairn, Iskra Spencer, Thomas Quinn, Michael Valceski, Tiana Myers and David Haden.
“Throughout this campaign, Labor will highlight our plans to lead Wollongong’s future, address the housing crisis and invest in our suburbs.
“The Labor team looks forward to listening to and speaking with people across the community about our plan for Wollongong’s future,” Cr Brown said.
