BROWN CALLS FOR START OF WIN GRAND
Labor Candidate for Lord Mayor Tania Brown has called on Level 33, the new owners of the WIN Grand CBD block, to commence construction of the approved plans for the critical CBD site as a priority and to help meet NSW imposed housing targets.
Disappointed-that we didn’t get the funds we hoped THIS round
We will continue to work with our federal members looking for other opportunities
Moving ahead with the project
Reassure the community that we are fully committed to this project
Importance to the local community
People in the southern eastern suburbs deserve the best community facility we can deliver and that’s what we will be doing
“I welcome the recent announcement that Level 33 has purchased from Bruce Gordon, the approved WIN Grand project, and media reports that this project is now in the pipeline for the next five years,” Cr Brown said.
“However, a 5-year time frame lacks ambition. It is too long to wait and I’m urging Level 33 to bring forward their plans to help rejuvenate the CBD and assist the city meet the 9200 housing target set for Wollongong.
“The prime CBD location of this $450 million project means it will play a lead role in determining Wollongong’s future and we cannot afford to sit passively and wait for an undetermined time on when the project will commence.
“Our community has been extensively consulted through the master planning and development application process, leading up to the approved consent issued in 2023. We want to see this exciting project get off the ground.
“This site is too important to delay and I will be seeking a meeting with Level 33 to encourage them to review their priorities and bring this critical project forward and start construction.
“This development includes 402 homes for local families and will help meet the NSW housing target set for Wollongong.
“I applaud Bruce Gordon’s vision in consolidating the site and investing in the planning process. Our community can now benefit from that vision by moving quickly to rejuvenate the now tired buildings with a new future focused construction.
“I want to be a Lord Mayor that leads Wollongong’s future, a key part of that is ensuring that we get city shaping projects off the ground without further delay,” Cr Brown said.
